About this trip
What a Maldives trip looks like
The Maldives is not a place you tour. You fly to Malé, transfer to one island, and stay on it. The resort is the holiday (its reef, its restaurants, its house sandbank) and the only real decisions are which island and how you get to it.
That transfer matters more than people expect. A speedboat resort is close to Malé, cheaper to reach and reachable at any hour. A seaplane resort is further out, usually quieter and better for reef, but seaplanes fly in daylight only, which can mean a night in Malé if your flight lands late.
Three nights is enough to feel the point of it. Five is better if you are coming for the diving, because the good sites are a boat ride from the house reef.

Where you actually go
Malé
The capital and the transfer point: a dense square mile you pass through rather than visit, though the fish market is worth an hour if you are stuck there.
Water villas
Over the lagoon on stilts, most with steps or a ladder straight down into it. The reason the Maldives looks the way it does in photographs.
Beach villas
On the sand, usually larger for the money, with direct beach access. The better choice with children, and quieter in wind.
The house reef
Snorkelling straight off the island. The single thing that most separates one resort from another, and worth choosing on.
Sandbanks
Bare strips of sand that surface at low tide, used for private lunches, dinners and photographs with nobody else in them.
Seaplane transfer
A twenty-minute flight over the atolls to the further resorts, the best view of the country you will get. Daylight hours only.
Manta and whale shark points
Boat rides out to feeding sites. Seasonal and atoll-specific. South Ari is the reliable one for whale sharks.
Sunset fishing
Handline fishing off a dhoni at dusk, with the resort kitchen cooking whatever comes up.
Maafushi
A local island rather than a resort one, for anyone who wants guesthouses, a public beach and a lower bill.
Hulhumalé
The reclaimed island beside the airport, useful for a night when a flight lands too late for a seaplane.

Are the prices per person?+
We quote per person on twin sharing, and we quote per enquiry rather than publishing a rate. Prices move with your travel dates, the hotel category and availability on the day you book. A published number would be wrong for most people who read it.
Can I change the hotels or the number of nights?+
Yes. Tell us what you want changed (a cheaper hotel, one night less, a different city) and we revise the itinerary until it fits, then confirm the booking.
Is the visa included?+
Free visa on arrival for Indian passport holders, 30 days. Visa fees are not included in the package unless the quote says so, and we confirm the current requirement for your passport and dates before you pay.
When is the best time to go?+
November to April, the dry north-east monsoon. Travelling outside that window is usually cheaper, and we will tell you honestly what you would be trading away.
What do you need to confirm the booking?+
