About this trip
What a Baku trip looks like
Baku is a walled medieval core with a glass skyline built around it, on the edge of the Caspian. It became a short-haul favourite from India for the obvious reasons: a four-hour flight, an online visa, and a city small enough to walk.
Four nights is the right length. Two for the city itself, one for Gobustan and the mud volcanoes to the south, and one for the mountains at Gabala or Guba if you want green after the desert.
It is at its best in spring and autumn. The summer is very hot and the winter wind off the Caspian is the reason the city is named after it.

Icherisheher
The walled old city, UNESCO-listed: the Maiden Tower and the Shirvanshahs’ Palace inside the walls.
Flame Towers
Three towers above the city, screened with LEDs that burn after dark. Best seen from Highland Park.
Heydar Aliyev Centre
Zaha Hadid’s white curve on the edge of the city, and the one building worth a detour.
Baku Boulevard
A six-kilometre promenade along the Caspian, and where the city walks in the evening.
Gobustan
Rock carvings on a hillside south of the city, some of them twelve thousand years old.
Mud volcanoes

Ateshgah fire temple
A seventeenth-century fire temple on the Absheron peninsula, built where natural gas vented from the ground.
Yanar Dag
A hillside that has been burning continuously for decades, best after dark.
Gabala
Mountains and forest three hours inland, with the Tufandag cable car up the ridge.
Nohur Lake
A still green lake in the hills near Gabala, with pedal boats and a good lunch stop.

Are the prices per person?+
We quote per person on twin sharing, and we quote per enquiry rather than publishing a rate. Prices move with your travel dates, the hotel category and availability on the day you book. A published number would be wrong for most people who read it.
Can I change the hotels or the number of nights?+
Yes. Tell us what you want changed (a cheaper hotel, one night less, a different city) and we revise the itinerary until it fits, then confirm the booking.
Is the visa included?+
E-visa (ASAN Visa) for Indian passport holders, applied for online before travel. Visa fees are not included in the package unless the quote says so, and we confirm the current requirement for your passport and dates before you pay.
When is the best time to go?+
April to June and September to October. Travelling outside that window is usually cheaper, and we will tell you honestly what you would be trading away.
What do you need to confirm the booking?+
