About this trip

What a Kerala trip looks like

The Kerala loop runs inland from Kochi to Munnar for the tea, on to Thekkady for the spice country and the reserve, then down to Alleppey for a night on a houseboat before returning to the coast.

The drives are the good part. The climb to Munnar goes through rubber, then cardamom, then tea, and the last hour is entirely estate. Nothing on the route is more than four hours.

The houseboat night is what people remember, and it is worth taking seriously: a private boat rather than a shared one, and moored overnight rather than tied at the jetty.

Tea estates at 5,000 feet, with the museum, an estate walk and mist that arrives most afternoons.

Eravikulam National Park

Above Munnar, and the last stronghold of the Nilgiri tahr. Closed for calving in February and March.

A dam, a lake and a spot where the hills throw your voice back, the standard Munnar afternoon.

A tiger reserve around a lake, with a boat on the water and spice plantations on the road in.

Are the prices per person?+

We quote per person on twin sharing, and we quote per enquiry rather than publishing a rate. Prices move with your travel dates, the hotel category and availability on the day you book. A published number would be wrong for most people who read it.

Can I change the hotels or the number of nights?+

Yes. Tell us what you want changed (a cheaper hotel, one night less, a different city) and we revise the itinerary until it fits, then confirm the booking.

Is the visa included?+

No visa is needed. This is domestic travel. Where a permit is required, as in Ladakh or parts of the north-east, we arrange it with the booking.

When is the best time to go?+

September to March. Travelling outside that window is usually cheaper, and we will tell you honestly what you would be trading away.

What do you need to confirm the booking?+
